A Genetic Map of the Region Around unc-22 on LG IV

T.M. Rogalski, D.L. Baillie

Figure 1

We are studying genomic organization in a small region around the
unc-22 gene on linkage group IV. This region is approximately 1.5
map units in length and is defined by the deficiency, sDf2. In
addition to the unc-22 gene, we have identified one other nonessential
gene (dpy-20) and twenty essential genes that are uncovered by this
deficiency. The mutations which defined these genes were positioned
by two methods: recombination mapping relative to unc-22 and
complementation mapping with the deficiencies. sDf7, sDf8, sDf9 and
sDf10. The positions of the essential and nonessential genes in the
sDf2 region are shown in the accompanying genetic map. Sixteen of the
essential genes map in a 1.0-map unit region to the left of unc-22
whereas the remaining four essential genes are in a region of about 0.
5 map units to the right. Only eight of the twenty essential genes
are represented by more than one allele.
